Welcome To Your Little Self

“Over in Killarney
Many years ago,
Me Mither sang a song to me
In tones so sweet and low.
Just a simple little ditty,
In her good ould Irish way,
And l’d give the world if she could sing
That song to me this day.

“Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, hush now, don’t you cry!
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, that’s an Irish lullaby.”

Oft in dreams I wander
To that cot again,
I feel her arms a-huggin’ me
As when she held me then.
And I hear her voice a -hummin’
To me as in days of yore,
When she used to rock me fast asleep
Outside the cabin door. ”  *

Welcome Little Liam.  I have a few things I’d like to tell you.  I know your Mommy and Daddy.   And I thought I thought I would tell you some things about them.  Things that, by the time you can read this, you’ll already know for your own little self.  First, and most importantly, they love one another.  That’s why you are here.  Second, they are two of the kindest, gentlest, and most giving people I’ve ever known.  I aspire to be as good as they are.  Isn’t it nice to know that your parents are setting a good example for people who are older than them?  If I can learn from them I am sure you can too.

I hope you treasure their humor like I do.  Your father making your mother laugh, and your mother laughing at your father’s silly jokes…. it will be music to live your life by.   Treasure treasure treasure that.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions.   Because if they don’t know the answer they will help you figure it out.    They’re pretty smart like that.

You won’t need a temper or a tantrum to get your way with them.  I am pretty sure you will get what ever you need and most of what you want just by looking at them.   They adore you that much.

They are the kind of people that I don’t feel like I ever get to spend enough time with.   I look forward to being with them and sharing laughter and friendship.   And now we get to look forward to getting to know you.   We will watch you grow over the years.    And I know with your parents at the helm you will be guided through a wonderful life.   I am looking forward to their experiences of joy and growth with you.   And I can’t wait for you to get to know them.  Absorb the kind of people they are, in to your own little self.  I know they will guide, but they are strong and confident people.  So they will be thrilled to see you become the little boy, the young man, the man- you are destined to be.

But for now I wish you all of the comfort of their arms “a huggin” you.   And their hearts a loving you.   Because they do.

A hundred thousand welcomes Little Strong Willed Warrior.   Welcome.
