Sometimes the very best gift I get is something said or done in my presence and immediately I shout ‘dibs’ on being able to blog about it.
Immediately.
Which makes it mine.
Sadly there is one thing, and only one thing, that supercedes or out ranks the ‘dibs’ called by a family member. But, it has to be enforced prior to the incident the ‘dibs’ is called on.
This is how it played out:
Early Saturday Husband and I are sitting around the breakfast table with relatives who will go unnamed. As family we have much to joke about and share amongst one another. We haven’t seen one another for a few months so we have much to catch up on. During the breakfast campaign one of us, and then all of us, chimed in on “what happens in (name of the city withheld to protect all other family members) stays in (name of the city withheld to protect all other family members)”. On the one hand the Las Vegas standard comment is now a catch phrase.
But on the other hand once uttered, it must be honored and respected. As a rule. Law. Dictate.
So. Fast forward to later in the day. Out in the big city of (name of the city withheld to protect all other family members).
A very funny, and some may say risque moment occurred.
I immediately called ‘dibs’ on the said moment. Very pleased with myself. Two of the members who not only witnessed but were part of the exchange laughed and were in full support of the ‘dibs’ proclamation.
It was a moment that would have changed the entire out come of this blog. And your, the reader’s, day.
Until tragedy befell me. The fourth member of the incident invokes the morning’s proclamation of :
“Whatever happens in (name of the city withheld to protect all other family members) stays in (name of the city withheld to protect all other family members)”.
Foiled.
So…sorry. I can’t tell you what happened.
Rules. We have them for a reason. Or society would be chaos.
