Something Isn’t Right

I have heard and read the quote of Edmund Burke:   “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing”.

And I believe in the essence and the spirit of the quote.

But if I may humbly add a thought, an opinion, a footnote of my own.

+

Good men and women need to recognize

that doing something is not always a good idea either.

It’s doing the right thing that matters.

Find the right thing to do,

And work towards that goal.

+

As a person.

We must know that evil exists.

And contemplate what it is that allows evil.

And what we can do.

A Person

As a person.

I may pray for peace.

If pray is what I do.

Pray

I might beg of the powers-

Let there be peace.

Plead

I might stand up.

Raise my voice.

And actively pursue peace.

Pursue Peace

I might hide in fear.

And be unable to pray, or plead, or do.

Fear

I don’t know what each of us may do.

Or what each of us may think.

Or what each of us may fear.

But to have peace.

Mustn’t we believe in peace.

Mustn’t we be peace.

How many of us are?

  1. I feel that we must BE peace before we can see it anywhere in the world, and human beings are not generally peaceful. We’re always on the move, wanting this and wanting that, never satisfied with what we have. The war is within us and so we see it out there. Its just who we are right now. I feel that this is what the human journey is about, learning that peace is who we truly are. But it takes a long time to get there unfortunately.

  2. Colleen, I truly believe you in pricinpal, as an individual we should and must fight those battles that need to be fought, And we need to join other like minded individuals so our voices can be heard, and our actions have impact. But sometimes even the masses are wrong. In this day and age of of instant awareness, instant knowledge, instant gradification, and the want for instant change or results, there is the possiblity of the masses acting without all of the information needed. Today because of the availability of so many means to communicate, a single blow can become a hurricane in an instant, a single rain drop a monsoon, this potential needs to be part of our matra as well. Our awareness, when we take up the battle and struggle for peace both of mind and body. Take care, Bill

    • We do need to fight battles, I agree Bill. And oh don’t we all take a little info and respond quickly and without ALL of the info. I also sometimes think that people “react” and don’t put the energy in to the thought out action that is needed.

  3. It is human nature to want more than we need, alas, there will always be discontent. I dn’t mean we should give up. We must always try.

Something weird is going on with WP. I’ve been getting a lot of broken links. Before I opened this post, the previous one said, “Oh,oh.” I tried you http link at the bottom of the email post and that didn’t work. I then licked on Chatter Master by your picture and that worked. I wonder what’s going on.

  4. “It’s doing the right thing that matters..Find the right thing to do,” is a profound statement…Capt. Wen Jones did just that – to come to the aid of a defenseless child against three young men who just wanted to be “bad azz”. Jones got heavily beat up and would do it again…because it was the right thing to do. Jones is a Marine now enjoying family life and no longer on active duty. He didn’t know the boy…just that it would be wrong to do nothing.

    • I haven’t seen this yet Koji. I see I have it from you. But I am sitting in the waiting room of the hospital. I will email you.

The right thing to do, is often overlooked so that someone can just react.
