The Power You Wish

If I could choose a power to have as my own.

Any power at all.

Real or imagined.

I would choose real.

And I would choose-

The power of music.

To create it.

To breathe life in to it.

To breathe life in to

Those who hear it.

Sing it.

Fill their lives with it.

To have the power to invoke joy, sympathy, empathy, love, sadness and compassion.

To have the power to bring people to their feet.

Or bring them to their knees.

To soothe a troubled baby.

To end bitter words with harmony.

To enhance love with it’s own symphony.

To create beauty where ugly resides.

To create energy with rhythm and beat.

When courage wanes music’s crescendo lifts and fills the reserves in need.

To shame hate with it’s power to unite.

The power of music.

Over any other power.

I will take it.

And use it for the good of all.

  1. What a sad world we would have without the joys of music. Thank you for your words lovely and the clips – I was a Jimmi fan and loved Susan when she first belted out this song and awed the world and it gave me goosebumps yet again πŸ™‚

  2. You tuned in to my thought patterns Colleen, I was transported by a song this morning, moved to tears, , and thought how easy it was, to slip into that emotion through words sung by someone I don’t know, have no knowledge of other than what’s put in the press. and who I will never meet….but they touch us all so… John Lennons Woman, gets me every time. my oh my, ’tis a powerful gift…. and one which I will never possess, (got a strange voice myself , sounds great in my head, but oh Dear me πŸ˜‰ ) Your selection is a great one. Music feeds us all, and as you say….’tis a super power. xPenx

    • Thank you Pen. I’m sure most people have connected to a song in some way at some point in their life. I cannot imagine anyone living their entire life and not having at least “a” moment in song. There are certain songs I can’t listen to without tears. “Amazing Grace” and our National Anthem are 2 of them.

  3. I would choose that power too with a side of “singing the actual lyrics and not the ones I hear.” Apparently, I’m that gal who has been singing the wrong lyrics for years! πŸ˜‰ Great post again!

  4. I nominate you for peacemaker of 2014. If anyone can negotiate peace, Colleen. You can.
Not familiar with singe of Silence. Love his voice. Imagine by John Lennon always makes me cry at the intro of the song. πŸ˜‰

  5. I wish I could even carry a tune. I think it may be hopeless for me. When I tried to learn to play the guitar as a kid, it was sad. But, like you, I would love to have a musical gift. Instead God gave me words. For that, I’m thankful.

    Hugs from Ecuador,

  7. Well selected power, Colleen. Music done right takes you back to any point in your life you wish, presenting the sights, smells and touches that went along with hearing that song on that day. Now that’s powerful.

  8. Colleen, What a wonderful post. From you 1st words you had me. I love music, and I sprinkle in a tune title from time to time in my posts. But the love story had me, it made me smile in my heart. Your love is so much more generous than mine, You want to share and teach and share some more, Me I just want to play guitar like Eric Clapton. Very greedy on my part. I appreciate your way better than mine. Thank you and take care, Bill

    • Hahahahahahaha! I would love to be able to play the guitar well Bill, I cant deny that. I’ve been taking lessons for a year and I am HORRIBLE. I still can NOT transition between cords. Horrible I am. But I am enjoying the learning.

But if some magical powers were instilled in me….that is surely the power I would want. πŸ™‚

  9. You’ve offered some really wonderful music. I think we’re so fortunate to have music so readily accessible these days. It’s almost unlimited! And it allows me to make playlists for those many moods. πŸ™‚

  10. I love the word .. power for the music you love – fantastic word really … because it puts power on you and everything else. I use the word – clouds .. because they hang above us.
Love all your videos .. all the power that you have scattered over me here. Thank you so much. Glad your power wasn’t the type we have to take up the nose. *smile

      • Colleen, I read you post totally wrong … I read it as powder ????!!! How funny this became .. big difference between power and powder. Music is power .. and I force it on to everybody as you know *smile
But I like more that music is powder … falling soft over us. My god, this became a bit complicate and very funny. *laughter
