Wake Me Up

If you catch me sleeping, I’d appreciate it if you would wake me up.   I don’t mean sleeping as in head fallen back, drool rolling down and snoring bellowing out.

I mean sleeping.  You know.   Through everything.

Sleeping through the routine of life.  The routine that once it’s gone or changed or challenged…..we mourn.   I like my routine now.  I also like the shake ups and unexpected joys and turn abouts.   Long ago I challenged myself to never say anything along the lines of “I wish it were Friday” when it’s only Monday.   I didn’t want to get in the habit of wishing my life away.  Even when at work and I look at the clock and it’s only 11:12 a.m. and I look at the clock two hours later and it’s only 11:14 a.m.   I tell myself that not everyone gets the benefit of having two full hours in two minutes.

Any way.

If you catch me snoozing through ….. give me a nudge.  Or go ahead and startle me out of it.

I don’t want to miss anything.

Unless it’s night time.  And I have to go to work in the morning.  Then it’s okay to let me sleep.  Please, let me sleep then.

  1. Autopilot can be hard to break. Mindfulness, a good idea though at times difficult.
But yeah, nighttime, sleepytime…good idea right about now actually. Night. 🙂

  2. I read this somewhere… to always live in the moment. We certainly can’t change the moment but can change our way of thinking. I also try very hard to not wish life away…although I CANNOT ride my bike on Monday at 11:12am. geesh!

This was a very cute post, but it makes me wonder if you actually slept through a very important event!

  3. Colleen, I truly appreciate this post, as I try to live every moment. But just like you when I am laying in bed at 2am if you see me sleeping, leave me the hell alone LOL LOL. I can also honestly say I never made a habit of wishing for Friday on a Monday, the times I did do it were important because of the event that was happening on that coming Friday. Heck one of those times happened just this month, smiling. Like you if you see me napping give me a nudge, I don’t want to miss a moment. Take care, Bill

    • Awwwwwwwwww Bill! 🙂

I had to be told to not wish my life away. But from the first I heard that, I adopted that as a great wisdom to include in my life. And I don’t want to miss a thing either! ❤

  4. Wake up! 🙂 I’ve caught myself sleeping through life, probably more times than I’d like to count. Then, there are other days when I am wide awake. The sky is vibrant blue, the clouds are beautiful detailed balls of cotton and even the trees are taller. Those are the best days of all.

    • I know, it is wonderful when I can so vividly recall the color of the sky on a great bike ride. Or the cold rain that exhilarated me on another bike ride. Or the smell of babies and lotion! Oh yes. The best days. 🙂

  5. 2 hours in 2 minutes! Ha! We’ve all been there, haven’t we? Now I feel like time is rushing by…. Maybe it’s because I don’t really sleep these days… Staying present is what it’s all about! Speaking of which… the baby just woke from his nap – and…. I’m off!

  6. I thought of that group, Wham, and their silly 80’s song, “Wake Me Up” when you go, go… remember how you said I started you singing, “Amie,” well now I may be singing that silly song from the past!
As far as trying to catch every minute from now on, I am ‘on board’ with you, Colleen! Now, you nudge me, if I should drowse off, I will get your husband to nudge you if you start to nod off! I think you already have a team member there!
I have to admit I love Sunday afternoon naps, if I can get one in on a Saturday, I am rather lucky. That is usually a busy day in the life of Nana! Smiles, Robin

    • I thought of it it too! 🙂 I do have a great teammate. He is by far the best !!!

I SHOULD nap. But I am always afraid if I do, I won’t sleep at night. ANd I have enough struggles sleeping at night I hate to make it worse!!! 🙂
