Name Game Blog Hop II

Mark Bialczak, as team coordinator for Team Pepper of this year’s NaBloPoMo came up with a great idea!  He has started a Blog Hop called the Name Game.   I was picked by Silver Threading to join the fun.

Here Are the Rules:

1. Write a paragraph or two about somebody from an ordinary walk of life with an unordinary name. It can either be a true story about somebody you know with that name, or a fictional piece about somebody with a name you made up.

2. After you’re done posting your story, send me an email to with your Blog Hop II, your blog name and either TRUE STORY or MADE IT UP in the subject line.

3. Pick another Nano Poblano team member from the home page and tag them on their About page. Try to spread the wealth around from Fish of Gold’s original blog hop to start, but duplication is OK as the month rolls along.

4. The writing cutoff is Nov. 28. By the end of Nov. 29, email to me at a list with a guess of TRUE STORY or MADE UP for each post on the blog hop. Put Blog Hop II, Final Guesses in the subject line.

5. The Nano Poblano team member with the most correct answers wins a special prize, which I will mail to them. That means you will have to email me your address if you win.

6. Have fun.

Here is my contribution:

One of my first jobs as an adult was in Telemarketing.   It wasn’t very glamorous but I did have fun.  I was a pretty modest and non partying type person.  Thrown in to the mix of characters I worked with was eye opening for me.  Though I was younger than most people there, they saw me as MUCH older.  Most of them drank and most of them lived life styles that left me in wide eyed disbelief.

I only remember a few names.  Ted, he was older, probably in his seventies.  Very dignified.  I liked him a lot.  And I think of him often.

Kara, she married an assistant district attorney and moved to Florida.

Chet, he was our boss and had a sick cat (I only remember this because of some bizarre behavior of his and someone said it was because his cat was sick.   Only all these years later do I wonder why.)

Drew, I remember his face but not much about him.

And then the unhappiest guy I have ever met.  He was just sad all of the time.  Eeyore type sad.  All these years later when I think of him I actually visualize him with that kind of droop to his posture.   And I only remember him so vividly, because of his personality.  And his name.

Nowell Happy.    It makes me sad to think how sad he was, and that no one called him by his first name which pronounced as “NOLE”.    They called him “Not Ever”.

😦  I think about him a lot too.  And hope he is very much Happy.

MeWhoAmI…’re next!  😉

  1. Colleen, thank you for passing this on to me! I’m really looking forward to participating. Also, that was a great story. I feel so sad for Nowell, but hope that at the very least, the “Not Ever” part was made up.
