My mom had a friend.
Her name was
Mary Martha Murray Murphy.
They called her
That’s so funny!
Right? When mom told me this the other day I burst out laughing. She kept making the ‘mmmmmmm’ sound.

This made me laugh out loud! I’ve had a rough (grief-filled) day and this was the perfect way to end it, on a high note. Thank you Colleen!
You’re welcome Carolin. I’m sorry it’s been a rough day. But so glad the humor got through it to make you laugh.
My mom will be pleased she made someone laugh. 🙂
Her name would look splendid on a business card!
Wouldn’t it? 🙂 Or she could use the Cambell’s Soup logo! 🙂
Mmmmm mmmmm good.
Still making me laugh. I can still hear mom saying “mmmm”.
Thats a pretty cool name!
Right? 🙂 Pretty funny stuff there!
Here’s what I say about Mom’s Mary, MBC. She two-upped M&M’s and one-upped 3M!
HA! She did indeed MBM!!!! 🙂 Chuckling chuckling…..
lol! Good story, too. 🙂
🙂 I know, still chuckling when I read it. I’ve had more people who never ‘write’ a comment, say things to me as I pass them in the hall, or send me texts about this one. 🙂
I must wonder if she is Irish? *-) ❤
🙂 If she isn’t they wanted to be!!! 🙂
That’s so funny. I’m laughing. 🙂
I think this must be one of the funniest things I’ve written. And I give credit to mom for telling me the story. 🙂
Wow! Someone thought M’s were pretty awesome!
Right? And they aren, aren’t they?
Well, being that my first name is Marissa…
I don’t know if this is imaginative or not, but it sure is hilarious. Someone must have love ‘M’ names or a lot of relative had M names and Mary was named after them. *scratches head*
😀 😀 😀
This is actually true Tess. Though growing up I didn’t know her as anything but MRS HER MARRIED NAME . Growing up, we were not allowed to call adults by their first names. And I never changed that when I became an adult and ALWAYS knew her as “MRS”.
I now wonder…..where and why all of the M names. 🙂
But the mmmmm sound cracks me up.
😀 😀 Sounds someBODY liked M’s.
I hated when my son-in-law called me by my given name. We were brought up the same way you were and even as an adult, I called my mother’s friends Mrs. etc. as well.
Me too. If I run in to teachers I had decades ago I still use “MR” or “Miss” or “MRS”. 🙂
We were brought up r.i.g.h.t.
I’m still chuckling.
Mmmmmm me to
Love it! Easy to remember too, even when you forget and are trying to remember. “And her name is…mmmm.”
Hahahahahahaha!!!!! THAT is funny!!! 🙂
Her name sounds like the beginning of nursery rhyme or song. Her parents must have had a sense of humor. 🙂
I would think they did!!!! 🙂 If not, others made up for it. 😉
What a lovely name…and story. ☺
🙂 Thank you Koji !
That is a great nickname 🙂
Cracks me up!
Haha. There is a big tradition here for calling people their own name, plus their husband or wife plus their mothers or fathers. Your post reminded me of one from my childhood, his name was ‘Paddy, Mandy, Huey Fahy’. I thought it was Paddy, mandy, huedy faddy.
🙂 I love this!!!!!
My siblings and I all have nicknames. So this really struck me as funny and to hear mom saying “mmmm” cracks me up.
I just reread this and it cracked me up, AGAIN!
🙂 I know. Every day when I see it I laugh. 🙂
