Facetious

I Love My Desk

I love siting at a desk.

More than I love bike riding.

Or kayaking.

Or traveling.

Or singing.

Or hanging out with family and friends.

Or learning musical instruments.

Or hiking.

Or singing off key.

Or exploring.

Or hunting down the person that created 40 hour work weeks.

More than you love to write irony too, I’m guessing?

  2. Debra says:

You have weariness written all over you! I hope you have a chance to bike and hike, or kayak and sing…whatever your heart desires to do this nice long holiday weekend! ox

    • Thank you Debra. Not so much weariness as realization (every time it hits me it seems like a NEW realization) of how much time we spend away from our families…. Mind you, I am grateful for my job. I’m just blaming the people for making the work hours so daggone intrusive! πŸ˜‰

  3. I think work weeks used to be longer. Up until the early 1900s I believe people worked 6 days per week, some even worked 7! Or maybe I’m totally whacked on that Colleen. πŸ™‚

  4. Blame Henry Ford who ushered it into his factory in 1914, reducing the work week there down from 48 hours. In 1938 the Department of Labor made it the standard by law.
But I know what you mean, some days 4 hours is too long!

    • I know ! Stupid industrialization!!!! I kid, I kid! We’ve come a long way in getting our work environment protected. But yeah….going to work takes half the day , the other half is split up between sleeping and family and friends and creativity and all of the mundane we must do! πŸ˜‰

I love reading your random thoughts (That is what these are, correct?). Especially with the little stick figures. I am almost half expecting them to start moving at some point.

Just a thought; you ever thought of putting these along with the stick figures to accompany some or all of the small random thought posts into a physical book? I have been wondering this since you started incorporating them. I think they are cool.

    • Very good Heretic! πŸ™‚ And hello! πŸ™‚ Yes, they are random. Funny you say you expect them to start moving….I did a wee little cartoon clip in a video for a friend of mine when she retired. That was fun. πŸ™‚

Book? Yes, well about that….I would love to. I play with the idea, I just haven’t made the time to do it. πŸ™‚

  6. LOL Colleen! You haven’t convinced me! hahaha

  7. nimi naren says:

    Loved it. Cute sketch…

  8. Robin says:

lol! I bet you love it as much as I love the ironing.
Hope you’re out enjoying a long weekend of biking and kayaking and having fun. πŸ™‚

    • Oh the bike rides this weekend Robin! Not up to what I would like to be doing….but 30 yesterday and 51 today. πŸ˜‰ Maybe I can still get my 100 in this year! Last year I barely got to ride so this year we are trying to make up for it. And it helps for when I have these random thoughts. πŸ˜‰

  9. inmycorner says:

Colleen – I think you need a different “face-time” partner! grin. Glad the week-end is forth-coming. Happy 4th of July in advance!

  10. janet says:

Very good use of the word.

  11. Haha. Takes talent to say it like it isn’t and make me laugh. Good one. Happy weekend & 4th.

  12. Oh yes, it can be quite frustrating sitting at a desk and watching the world go by.

  13. Wish you an amazing weekend Colleen, just enjoy πŸ˜€

  14. Are holidays coming up soon. You sound a little bit overwhelmed? ❀ ❀ Just tired?

    • Just that sometimes the ‘thought’ of how much time we put in to ‘work’ away from our ‘lives’ makes me sigh sigh sigh! And yes at least a 3 day weekend. πŸ™‚

  15. duncanr says:

I’d like to hunt down the person who makes that last minute I spend waiting to clock off at work last 120 seconds !

  16. niaaeryn says:

I agree with the head on desk…and use of facetious. Well done and wickedly funny πŸ™‚
Still, tis Friday…so…hope you have a great weekend and a happy fourth as by now you should be otta there. πŸ™‚

  17. markbialczak says:

And they say you can’t tell tone on the Internet, MBC. Ha! Perfect.

  18. reocochran says:

This means “you deserve a break today”… no, not fast food humor. Just like the way it plays. I believe you may sometimes need to let these thoughts out. You need to be human, Colleen. Hope your holiday weekend was fantastic and sorry you have to get back to the grindstone. Oh, how many years until we can retire?!!

    • πŸ™‚ This was more of an exasperation moment that even weariness. Just the idea of how much time we spend “not” being with family and life…. I know work is a valuable part of life. I just think sometimes it’s over rated! πŸ˜‰

Retirement? Woosh….I can’t even pretend to think about it yet!

      • reocochran says:

Well, we can dream of retirement, right? πŸ™‚
Glad to know it was more exasperation than weariness, Colleen. Sending you a cheery wish for both our days back to work to be “easy.” Haha!

        • Dream….dream….dream. πŸ™‚

The day went super fast and the evening faster! I got out for a hike with a friend and now I’m responding like mad to comments! πŸ˜‰

  19. Heartafire says:

haha, o, me too! I have to say though, sometimes that desk feels like home! Love this article.
