Child Wise

 Not yet five.

And she tells me as we talk about feelings,

That sometimes she is okay.

But sometimes she just has to feel angry.

And that’s okay.

I told her she was very smart.

I told her that being angry is, indeed, okay.

But we must still behave while we are angry.

She looked out the car window as we drove

And said

“Sure we do.”

With just the smallest hint of sarcasm.

Dismissing me and my wisdom.

Smart girl, sometimes we do get angry and can’t help it. But you’re right, we can’t use anger as an excuse to misbehave. That goes for all ages.

Oh my goodness! If I were a Brit, I would say: “How cheeky of her!” 🙂
I had to chuckle at her 5 year old ability of being subtle in her use of sarcasm, Colleen.

I think at times when I’m angry my emotional age must be about 5, as well! She expresses herself very well–even with the tone. 🙂
