I Am Not A Rock

I am not a rock.

I am temporary,

Unlike a rock.

Though my worth in existence

Seems more valued than a rock.

If I were to be asked, that is.

But my permanence, compared to that of a rock,

Seems fleeting.

Or am I making assumptions

Regarding the appraisal of my existence.

That because I can contemplate

And

I can question a rock’s value

Where a rock cannot question mine.

So…

My presence

Though less permanent

Has more value?

I suppose

If you could ask the rock

The rock’s answer may be different.

And if I were as permanent as a rock

Maybe I would not contemplate

The fleeting of my existence.
