Above The Tree Line

A hiking journal.

From above the tree line.

We climb.

With friend.

With sun.

In the middle of winter

That time

When winter didn’t come.

We found a path.

To the top.

With the help of the giant tendrils

That pierce the earth.

To find the tree tops

Below and below and below

They’ve turned inside out

To prepare for what isn’t.

We amazed at the glory

We have no hand in creating.

And no pride in ever owning.

We stood atop the trickle

Of water before the fall.

Then to theΒ below.

We scaled the earth today.

Reaching up above the tree line.

Then into the earth.

We descended.

And gazed at the caverns

Painted below.

And we were content.

To be mere shadows

In the splendor of it all.

This was Rock House and Old Man’s Cave in Hocking Hills, I think! πŸ™‚ Great post, Colleen. I used to live for 6 years in Lancaster. 1980 to 1986. I may be wrong but this is my guess. It was a fantastic day today.
