Husband and Heaven

My friend was giving me the business about how much my husband spoils me.

She turned to him and told him Jesus himself was going meet him at the pearly gates and welcome him in for all he suffered here as my husband.

My husband said :  I’ll be the old man just waiting outside the gates on the bench until she gets there.

We both melted a little bit.

He’s a smooth one, that one.

  1. Smooth, indeed. 🙂 And that’s simply one of endless reasons you love him.

  2. Paul says:

Slick he is. ;D Have you ever heard the story about the travelers back in the 1300’s? In England at that time there were mostly city states that were walled towns with fields and such outside the gates. An elderly man was sitting on his chair in the sun just outside the open gates one hot afternoon. A young family came down the road and they stopped to talk to him. They said that they were looking for a new home – a place to settle and restart their lives. They wanted to know what the people of this town were like. The old man asked them what the people of their old village were like. They responded that those people were mean and selfish and cold. The old man told them that they would find the people of this town the exact same. The travelers thanked him and moved on down the road. A short while later another young family approached on the road. They too stopped and asked the old man what the people of this town were like. The old man responded the same, asking what the people of the town they left were;like. The young man explained that they had been welcomed and cared for and treated with great respect. The cobbler had offered to train the young man in shoe construction and repair and the time had come eventually when the young man was qualified to start his own shop. There was not business enough for two cobblers so the young man gathered up his family and went searching for a new home. He said he really wanted to stay but it was only fair to his trainer that he move on. He said that he could not imagine how he and his family could have been treated any better. The old man smiled and said: “You will find the people of this town the exact same.”
