Told Me To Be

The older I get,

The more I recognize my oppositional defiance

Coming into play and defining my life.

I am now convinced that

Someone

At some point in my life

Told me to be independently wealthy.

And in my stubbornness to not be told what to do

I steadfastly refused.

That’ll teach people to tell me what to do.

  1. My Mother used to tell me : “It’s just as easy to love a rich man.” I refused to listen and proceeded to marry, not just one, but two poor men…showed her, right!
