Put It Down

I picked it up when I was younger.

And carried it a very long time.

It never made me stronger.

Though the weight of it grew heavier.

I picked it up when I was younger.

And carried it a very long time.

It never made me stronger.

Though the weight of it grew heavier.

I picked it up when I was younger.

And carried it a very long time.

It never made me stronger.

Though the weight of it grew heavier.

I picked it up when I was younger.

And carried it a very long time.

It never made me stronger.

Though the weight of it grew heavier.

I picked it up when I was younger.

And carried it a very long time.

It never made me stronger.

Though the weight of it grew heavier.

I picked it up when I was younger.

And carried it a very long time.

It never made me stronger.

Though the weight of it grew heavier.

Imagine the contradiction.

And the irony.

Of how my strength increased.

When I no longer carried the weights.

But knowing this,

Doesn’t stop me from picking it back up again.

Leave it behind.

  1. Those weights, and putting them down, have helped to make you into the treasure you are today, Colleen. Some who carry them become crushed and bitter by their weight, but some the strength and wisdom to set them down and replace them with empathy, compassion, and kindness instead. For your sake and for the world, I’m grateful you are one of the latter.

  2. Leave it behind … yes this is a good advice.
But I think everyone carries his burden. Everyone as much as he needs to get ahead, as he needs it for the way he has chosen. And if it gets too much we’ll drop it ..:)
