The Things We Do For Our Children

February 26, 2012

I’m asking Aunt Colleen to write this because my fingers aren’t heavy enough to press the keys.   And so I don’t mess up her computer.

I must say I’m so happy to be out of the envelope.

I'm So Happy To Be Out of the Envelope!

I was a surprise for Aunt Colleen, no one told her I was coming over,  and she was out of town for two days!  But it worked out well because I helped her out by keeping an eye on her mail while she was gone.

She seemed very excited and happy to see me and right away sent a picture of me with her, to Gio’s mom.  She let me try out her bed to see if I wanted to stay in her bed for the length of my visit.

But I thought that would be rude so I told her it was  a little big and I felt kind of lost in it.  So she made me my own bed!  With stars for a headboard.  I feel very loved!

I know she has some big plans for us this week.  So I’m going to bed to get rested.  You would think lying around in a mailbox for 2 days would give me plenty of rest.  But I’m exhausted!

February 27, 2012

Uhm….no one told me how much Aunt Colleen likes to get up and work out.  I mean, she gets up EARLY!  4:45 a.m.   I need to remember to talk to Giovanni, doesn’t he have any relatives who sleep in past 5 a.m.?  But it’s okay.  She was nice about it.  She didn’t make me get up and ride the bike that early.  But when she got home she did let me play with a high wheeler!   Do you know what that is?  It’s a bike that was used over A HUNDRED YEARS AGO!   She let me ride this one.

Sweet and pretty bike.  It was mine to use for the entire time I stayed there!   I could ride it anywhere I wanted.  In the house.  Which was perfect.  I could ride all day, stop in the kitchen for a picnic and ride some more.   Biking is fun.  Everyone should do it (I think Aunt Colleen wanted me to say that).

THEN!  She showed me some Tae Kwon Do.   That’s a martial art.  She teaches it!  She was fun.  But she sure sweats a lot.    She even made me a dobak (that means uniform).  And Uncle David made me my very own donbo’s (wooden stick weapons they practice with).  You start with a white belt.  It takes lots of years before you are a black belt.  And lots of work!  But someday I can have a black belt if I work for it.

I think I’m tired again.

FEBRUARY 29, 2012

It’s Leap Day!  Do you know what that means?  There is only a February 29 th ONCE every FOUR years.  I don’t get it.  But that’s what Aunt Colleen told me.

I met one of Giovanni’s cousins, Grace O’Malley.  My golly he has a BAZILLION of them!  We took her to her special ear doctor.  And he checked my ears!  He was really nice about it, because I didn’t even have an appointment.

And then I got to play with Grace O’Malley.   She likes to dance.  So we danced.

She’s a great dancer.  Look, she’s break dancing!

Then I helped her work on her alphabet.

She did a great job.  Aunt Colleen was proud of me for helping her.   We worked great together.  Helping someone else was a great way for me to practice too!

Then we had a snack.  Well, I did.  Grace O’Malley didn’t want to try the “ants on a log” snack.  But I thought it was great!

March 1, 2012

Well first I was dancing with Grace O’Malley.  Then Aunt Colleen and Uncle David took me to a dance class!

I tried a waltz, swing and even the CHA CHA!

This is one of my partners.  I think she thought I was cute.  I blushed.

So fun!

March 3, 2012

My oh My!

It’s been a crazy couple of days.  Uncle David went on a three day hike.  Aunt Colleen had to stay at work for an emergency.

So I was at home.  And the craziest things were happening.

Brooms aren’t suppose to move on their own, right?

Well, this one did!  It stood straight up by it’s self.  No one was holding it.  It was just standing there.  Staring at everything.  I didn’t know what it was going to do!   So I kept my eye on it.

When it looked like it was going after Aunt Colleen I jumped on it!  Then he froze.  Just stood there.   So I’m not sure if broom was actually going to do anything or not.  But I kept my eye on him.

Then I was worried it would fly away.  Brooms can fly too.  Yeah, kind of scary stuff. But I found an airplane and I was ready in case it took off, I could go after it and make sure it didn’t hurt anyone.

But it didn’t!  The broom behaved it’s self.  But, haha, I did go on a ride on the airplane anyway!

Then we went to see MORE babies that Aunt Colleen loves.

They seem to be everywhere.   I helped babysit Jar.  He would just fall asleep.  We would play.  He would sleep.  We would play.  That’s how babies are I guess.

And I hung out with Grace O’Malley and Dara and their mommy.

MARCH 5, 2012

I went to see MORE relatives of Aunt Colleen’s and Gio’s.  I met Aunt Katie and cousin D.  We went to see a movie!  THE LORAX.   Dr. Seuss is really a great guy.  I love his books.  And now D does too!

We had a great time. I ended having to sit with someone because the seat kept folding me up.

MARCH 10, 2012

Well we started today off by going to the dentist.  Aunt Colleen had to have some root canal work done.  I don’t know what that is.  But since I was with her they checked my teeth for me!    Isn’t that great?

I didn’t have one single cavity!

Then….I went to a wedding!  Talk about fun.  It was very colorful.  And you will NOT believe what they had… a candy bar.  Not a candy bar that you unwrap and eat.  But a bar, a table, FULL of candy that was as colorful as the wedding.  Oh it was so fun.

The bride and groom let me sit with them for a little bit.

They were so very nice, handsome and beautiful!  But it was their special day so then I went to hang out with the groomsmen.  You know, guy stuff.

March 16, 2012

Well I’m sad and happy.  Sad I’m going to be leaving Aunt Colleen and Uncle David.  They’ve been so very nice to me.   But glad I get to go see my friend Gio.

Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day and she wanted me to have a good day.  She wanted me to understand about Irish history, because she loves it so much.  So she read me some great stories about kings, and queen’s and all kinds of regular people.  We worked together on deciding what to dress up as.  After hearing her stories I didn’t want to dress up like a leprechaun.  So this is what we came up with:

For St. Patrick’s Day, instead of calling me Flat Stanley you shall call me:

KING BRIAN BORU the HIGH KING OF ALL OF IRELAND or Ard Ri na hEireann.  And here I stand at the seat of all High Kings, the Hill of Tara.

Tomorrow I will go back to being Flat Stanley. Today I am a king.  And I like it.  But tomorrow I will be okay with being Flat Stanley, I like being him just as much.
